Our Story
When they shut you down, you rise
1966: The Birth of the Recipe
My grandmother, Nonna Lorenza, invents a new recipe for a flatbread, inspired by her mother in law.
1987-2024: All eyes on Leonessa
Nonna Lorenza decides to open a small restaurant on top of a hill in Saltara, Italy. The place quickly rises to fame, selling nearly 1,000,000 crescias over a few decades!
2025: The Shutdown...
Unfortunately, in early 2025, a government error forces my nonna to shut the restaurant down and abandon forever her dreams.
2026: The Legacy Lives On
Today, I committed to continue her legacy through Leonessa (“lioness,” named after my powerful Nonna), sharing her unique flatbread with the whole world.

Leonessa fuels you like a meal, not a snack.

Yes. The cresce are shipped as soon as they are made and can be enjoyed right away or frozen, for example if you want to eat them at a later time or if you placed a larger order.
Once stored in the freezer, they can be kept for up to 120 days.
Once your package arrives, the cresce should be stored in the refrigerator or in a cool, dry place, away from heat sources and direct light. When stored this way, they have a shelf life of approximately 25 days from the date you receive the package (you will find the exact date on the label).
If you wish to enjoy them over a longer period of time, the cresce can be frozen for up to 120 days, while maintaining their flavor and texture. This way, you can always have them ready and take them out whenever you prefer.
We prepare each crescia only your order is placed.
Unlike supermarket products that are made in large batches and stored for long periods, our production happens on demand.
This ensures maximum freshness, quality, and a beautiful smell the moment you'll open your box!
For many reasons! Here are some of the main ones:
- Seed oils are processed with heat and chemical substances that damage the fats, so by the time they reach your plate, they already contain harmful byproducts.
- They are unstable, which means they break down even further during cooking.
- They are rich in omega-6 fats, which can make you feel sluggish and may promote a state where weight and health problems can easily develop.
- Unlike ancestral fats like butter, lard, or olive oil (which truly nourish and satiate you), seed oils have little nutritional value and push you to eat more without ever feeling genuinely full.
No, never. We don’t use any type of preservative.
Leonessa Piadina is made only with natural ingredients, which is why it must be kept in the fridge and consumed within 25 days.
Most flours come from wheat that’s treated with pesticides.
Organic flour, like the one we use, is healthier because it’s cleaner, less chemically treated, and free of additives that conventional flour often contains.
More or less the same as a supermarket piadina. But the experience is completely different.
Per 100 g, Leonessa Crescia provides about 300–310 kcal, with 34–35 g of carbohydrates, 15–16 g of fats, and 7–8 g of protein.
An industrial piadina often has a similar calorie count per 100 g, but on average it is made of about 90% flour and water. This means that almost all of its calories come from carbohydrates.
Our Crescia is different. About 50% of the dough is organic flour, while the remaining 50% comes from animal-based ingredients such as milk, eggs, ghee, and lard. This results in a more balanced composition, which makes a real difference when it comes to satiety.
Each Crescia weighs about 140 g, roughly the equivalent of two thin supermarket piadinas combined.
The result is that Leonessa Crescia is more filling, your energy stays stable for longer, and you don’t feel the need to eat two.
We currently shop all over Italy with all European countries to be added soon!
From the moment you'll order on the site, you can expect your crescias to be on yout table within 5 working days.
Larger packs offer a lower price per piadina.
